How to use different project categorizing means in Silverbucket?

Silverbucket user tips - project categories

Do you have loads of projects and you wish to have some means for categorizing them? Or is the number of projects rising, and you want to be in control before managing them becomes overwhelming? In Silverbucket there are three ways to categorize projects: portfolio, project tag and category.

If your organization has different kinds of project portfolios, you can bring the portfolio models also to Silverbucket. The portfolios can be created based on different strategic targets or whichever criteria the company has for the projects. In Silverbucket one project can belong to many different portfolios.

You can also use project tags for categorizing projects. The project tags may be based on euro, work amount, duration or the tags can be created according to different project types. The project tags can be used in a versatile way and you can give multiple project tags for a project.

Third way to categorize projects in groups is categories. They can be created according to the organization’s project models. In Silverbucket you can give only one category at a time to a project. Good examples for a category could be development projects, maintenance projects, architecture competitions or ABC model.

In addition, there is a bonus means which is a program. In Silverbucket a program is a kind of an “umbrella project” which includes several projects. One project can be connected only to one program but you can also use the project tags, portfolios and categories for the project. With these elements you can generate versatile and useful filtrations and searches.
